Diagnosis of most ear diseases is mainly based on clinic examination, otoscopy and audiometry. High Resolution Computed Tomography (HRCT) of the petrous temporal bone is extensively used in the evaluation of the middle and inner ear. The role of MRI is established in diagnosis of the brain stem, internal acoustic canal (IAC) and cerebellopontine angle (CP angle) lesions, and is expanding in the evaluation of the membranous labyrinthine structures, visualisation of the seventh and eighth cranial nerves and in detecting cholesteatoma. The objective of the current article is to demonstrate some of the more common ear conditions that are evaluated by the radiologist.
